two cents or so

not really sure why i feel a need to chime in about this, but here i go.

it seems pretty cut and dry to almost everyone paying attention that joe paterno did not do enough.  he did not meet (and certainly did not exceed) whatever moral obligation we, as a society, put upon a person in a position of power and respect.

that said, he did report the issue.

and the only reason people are as obsessed with throwing him under the bus about this is because they recognize his name.

sandusky - NOT paterno - assaulted children. university officials - NOT paterno - were informed and also didn’t raise the issue to proper authorities. in fact many other people at the university - just like paterno - were equally aware of what was going on and did even less.

the man is clearly no saint and i’m sure he feels - at the very least - monumentally stupid for putting the success of his career and the penn state football program ahead of ‘doing the right thing,’ and then having it all destroyed anyway. had he reported what he knew ‘properly’ when he first found out, the worst thing to happen to penn state football is they would have needed a new defensive coordinator.

so joe paterno is a selfish prick. but if we’re going to talk about this at all, can’t we be bothered to villify the dozens of other people who also knew or, i don’t know, the man who actually assaulted children?!
